' Hercules '
by Thaddeus Hutyra
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
I sit on stony traps and listen to the sounds
of youthful male skateboarders
challenging themselves
with figurative maneuvers
of various degrees
They just jumped off my breath
unaware I am their creator
Their youthful bodies are drown in sweat
yet they do what they do with never ending enthusiasm
That's their life, nothing else is more important
at those very moments
of their skateboarding wonders
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
There were so many legends about me
throughout all those millennia
saying truths and lies about me
but I don't care, the least to care about at least
The legends saying I slayed the Nemean Lion
I slayed the nine-headed Lernaean Hydra
I captured the Golden Hind of Artemis
I stole the Mares of Diomedes
I obtained the girdle of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons
I stole the apples of the Hesperides
so many other things there would follow thousand of pages
bloodcurdling, hair-raising
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
I am sitting in a noisy London pub
full of young people in the element of life
enthusiastic beyond anything to say
'cause they think their lives are forever
Well, that's good for them!
Cheers, young people
believe in your own immortalities !!
Although I am millennia old man
a vagabond across this world
I believe in you
in your youthful fantasies, full of optimism
The world shall belong to you one day
keep on your youthful dreams, never get old !!
Look closely now, dears
female dancers are springing out with my breath
and the pub turns itself into a fiery dance hall
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
You can see me in so many sculptured arts
me, fighting with the Nemean lion by Peter Paul Rubens
me, fighting Hydra by Antonio del Pollaiuolo
me, holding up the world for Atlas by Heinrich Aldegrever
me, fighting the giant Antaeus by Auguste Couder
me, freeing Prometheus by Christian Griepenkerl
me, the Drunken Hercules again by Rubens
me, the Giant Hercules by Hendrik Goltzius
so many other portrayals
but none of them showing me as I am now
and for all the future milennia
me, Hercules, old man, the perpetual vagabond
punished for losing equilibrium on this planet
on behalf of forces of falsehood and bloodshed
Just look around this world and see it for yourself
What's got the upper hand, the forces of goodness
or rather the forces bringing sufferings
on most of the inhabitants of this world
whatever sufferings they are, from hunger to random killings ?!
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
You want to know the initial story, of what happened to me ?
Listen then with a terror spreading through your brains
It looks a curse was thrown on me by a witch
wishing nothing but a vengeance for all times
She must have been very powerful
to be able to turn me into perpetual old vagabond
a curse I was unable to reverse throughout all those millennia
always ensnared in demon's claws
The legends indeed say
if I will be able to remove that curse from me
I will become my real self with a vengeance, yet again
me as I used to be in my glorious times
and the world shall return to a pristine version
one of goodness, evil gone for good
'cause I shall do what must be done
Pray, pray people the curse is gone
'cause it's not only for reversal of my own fate
but especially for your own fates
for all times to come
Believe it or not, my name is Hercules
born of ancient god, the first among gods
and of a Greek woman of angelic beauty
I am Hercules, millennia old man
perpetual vagabond across this world
